Hi, I have written something that I trully believe in and would like to start shooting it, whenever I find or make the money to do so. I was interested in inserting music by recording artists but do not know the legal side to this. Please someone tell me and give me the low down or process. Thanks much - Marco

Well I don't know much but I'll tell you what i do know. Every band/artist/compilation is released by a company (Sony, MCA, WB). Every music company has people that take care of stuff like this. Go on the web-site of the company that owns the band or artis who's music you want. Write them an e-mail explaining that you want rights to have their music in your film (be reeeaaaly NICE). Ask them if they can put you in contact with someone who can help. Then they should send you a e-mail back with contact info for a person who works for the company and who can help you.
I did this and it worked. They sent me back someones Fax number, but I havn't got around to calling that person yet (because of my movie delays and problems).
So just write the company. They should help.
